A pony trapped in a four-foot-deep (1.2m) trench has been successfully rescued by firefighters.

Utilizing hand tools, crews carefully carved out space to free Basil after discovering him stuck in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, on Tuesday morning.

To ensure his safe extraction, firefighters from Berkshire and Buckinghamshire administered sedation, employing strops and a crane to lift him to safety.

Following the rescue operation, Basil was entrusted into the care of his owner and the attending veterinarian, confirmed the fire service.

His owners expressed gratitude, stating, “Basil has responded positively to medication, begun eating, and is maintaining stability.

“We are immensely thankful to the fire service for their expertise, professionalism, and empathy throughout this ordeal.”
