Time was running out to save her π°
Bruce and Sue, residents of Maui, Hawaii, are dedicated to the care of stray cats in their Pukalani neighborhood, ensuring theyβre fed and looked after every day. But one morning in September, their usual routine took an unexpected turn when they encountered a cat in distress.
While feeding the feral cats near a concrete wall, they noticed a cat had somehow gotten her head stuck in one of the holes in the wall and couldnβt escape. The couple quickly reached out to the Maui Humane Society (MHS) for help, and humane enforcement officer Kaitlyn Mason arrived soon after to assess the situation.
The cat appeared alert, but stuck, so Officer Mason and Bruce worked together to carefully chisel away at the concrete surrounding the catβs neck, ensuring they didnβt harm her while freeing her. After some tense moments, they managed to release the cat from the wall.
Once free, the cat was taken to the MHS veterinary clinic for a checkup. Bruce and Sue anxiously awaited news about her health, and they were relieved when they learned that the cat had no injuries. After being spayed, she was returned to the couple the next day.
The couple named her Kaity, in honor of Officer Masonβs pivotal role in her rescue. Kaity received plenty of extra love and attention from Bruce and Sue, especially head scritches that she had missed while stuck in the wall. Despite the trauma of her ordeal, Kaity rejoined her feral colony and has since been thriving.
MHS expressed gratitude for the compassion and dedication of Bruce, Sue, and Officer Mason, stating, βTheir kindness made all the difference, giving Kaity a second chance at a happy and healthy life.β Today, Kaity is living her best life with her fellow cat friends, thanks to the collective efforts of those who cared for her.
