He dropped everything to help.
College student Carter Taylor was out kayaking and fishing when he overheard someone mention that a cat appeared to be stranded somewhere in the middle of the water.
He didn’t hesitate.
Taylor left his fishing equipment on the bank, climbed into his kayak and began paddling toward the area to see if he could help.
As he approached a tree standing in the water, he started hearing tiny cries.
That’s when he spotted the source.
A small kitten was stranded on the tree with no clear way to reach dry land.
Taylor knew he needed to move quickly. He worried the frightened kitten might try to jump toward him too soon and end up falling into the water.
He carefully paddled closer until his kayak was finally within her reach.
The kitten immediately seized her opportunity.
She jumped straight into the kayak and then climbed onto Taylor, clinging to her rescuer as he prepared to take her back to shore.
The touching moment was captured in a TikTok video.
With the kitten safely aboard, Taylor began paddling back.
She quickly curled up against him, seemingly deciding that the stranger who had come to her rescue was now someone she could trust completely.
Once they reached land, Taylor called his girlfriend to help with their unexpected passenger.
The couple brought the kitten home, gave her food and carefully cleaned her up.
They also gave her a fitting name: Lucky.
Lucky quickly began settling into her temporary surroundings, and the couple’s dog, Rigley, seemed more than happy to welcome her.
Their growing friendship was later shared in another TikTok update.
The following day, Lucky visited a veterinarian for a full examination.
Considering everything she had just experienced, the little cat was doing remarkably well. She was given antibiotics, but otherwise appeared healthy.
By that point, Taylor and his girlfriend were already starting to feel that Lucky hadn’t entered their lives by accident.
They soon decided that her stay wouldn’t be temporary after all.
“Looks like I have been chosen,” Taylor wrote on TikTok.
What began as an ordinary afternoon of kayaking and fishing ended with Taylor bringing home something he never expected.
Lucky went from being stranded alone above the water to having a permanent home, two loving humans and a new four-legged friend — all because someone heard she needed help and decided to paddle toward her.
