Galentine’s Rescue: From the Cold to a Loving Home
A Chilling Discovery
On a freezing Valentine’s Day in Missouri, volunteers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) stumbled upon a heartbreaking sight—a 2-year-old pit bull chained to a dog house, surrounded by snow. As the rescuers, led by Donna Lochmann, approached, they quickly realized she wasn’t alone.

Nestled beneath her were six tiny newborn puppies, struggling to stay warm under their mama’s body. What started as a single-dog rescue turned into a mission to save an entire family.
A Mother’s Trust
Knowing they had to act fast, the team gently lured Galentine, as they later named her, out of the dog house. Carefully, they lifted the puppies one by one and carried them to safety.
Despite the risks of taking a protective mother’s babies, Galentine seemed to understand they were there to help. She let rescuers remove the chain from her neck and then climbed into the rescue vehicle, checking on her puppies to make sure they were all safe.

For the first time in their lives, they felt warmth—and instantly, all the puppies fell into a peaceful sleep.
A New Beginning
At the SRSL shelter, Galentine and her babies—Serenade, Cherish, Flirt, Arrow, Amour, and Adore—were welcomed into a cozy, safe space with plush blankets and plenty of food. Galentine, who had clearly been starved for attention, eagerly soaked up every bit of love from the staff.

“She is sooo grateful. What a good mom,” the rescue team shared.
Weeks passed, and her fragile puppies grew into strong, playful little dogs. Once they were weaned and healthy enough, they became available for adoption.
Galentine’s Happy Ending
Just one month after being rescued, Galentine’s dreams finally came true.

At an adoption event the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, a family walked into the shelter looking for a new companion—and they instantly fell in love with Galentine.
She was finally going home.

“At just 2 years old, Galentine is still a baby herself,” SRSL wrote. “Never again will she be lonely, cold, frightened, or hungry. She’s ready to receive respect and give so much love in return. She matters.”
Now, Galentine is living her best life, surrounded by love and warmth—the way it should have always been. And soon, her puppies will follow in her paw prints, finding their own forever homes. 🐶❤️
