“[S]he was completely shut down” 🥺
When Suzette Hall received word about a tiny brown dog hiding in a clump of bushes, she didn’t hesitate. The frightened pup had reportedly been sitting there all day, barely moving as life went on around her.
“[T]his sweet girl sat in bushes for an entire day,” wrote Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29. “Frozen. Terrified.”
Hall rushed out immediately — but traffic brought her to a standstill. Knowing the dog couldn’t wait, she called her fellow rescuer and friend, Kristina Ross, to step in.
Still Waiting in the Bushes
Ross arrived at the location and found exactly what she feared: the little dog hadn’t budged.
“There she was. Still sitting in those bushes. Still so scared,” Hall later shared.
With patience, soft encouragement and a few tasty treats, Ross slowly earned the pup’s trust. Within minutes, she was able to carefully lift her and place her safely into the car.
The trembling dog was taken straight to Camino Pet Hospital, where staff checked her for injuries and scanned for a microchip. There wasn’t one.
Still, her behavior suggested she once belonged to someone.
“She was completely shut down,” Hall wrote. “You could just tell she was missing her family so much.”
Searching for Her People
Hall and Ross shared her photo everywhere — neighborhood pages, lost-pet groups, social media platforms.
Days passed with no response.
“We posted everywhere,” Hall wrote. “No one was claiming her.”
Just as hope began to fade, Ross spotted a lost-dog flyer in her community. The picture showed a pup who looked identical to the one they’d rescued.
She texted Hall immediately:
“[Kristina] said, ‘I think I found her owners.’”
A Joyful Reunion
The number on the flyer belonged to a family whose dog, Lionela, had disappeared not far from where the scared pup had been found.
When the family arrived at the hospital, everything clicked.
At first, Lionela seemed unsure — it had been some time. But then recognition dawned, and joy took over.
“It took her a minute to realize it was really them,” Hall wrote. “But then … pure joy.”
Once home, Lionela’s happiness was undeniable.
“She was SO happy to be back where she belongs,” Hall shared.
A Happy Ending
Lionela will soon receive a microchip so she’ll never be lost again. And while Hall continues rescuing dogs in need, Lionela’s story remains especially meaningful.
“This right here … this is the kind of stuff that makes me so happy,” Hall wrote.
For one once-terrified pup, a patch of bushes became the place where hope began — and home was found again.
