“They’re getting a second chance” ❤️

Early last month, San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) responded to a distressing call: a group of abandoned puppies had been left by the side of a busy road. An officer quickly rushed to the scene, carefully combing through the thick overgrowth in search of the tiny pups. Her efforts were soon rewarded when she spotted a cardboard box tucked among the brush. Inside, five frightened but resilient puppies huddled together for warmth and safety.

The officer immediately transported the puppies to ACS, where the team provided urgent care. Rescuers were relieved to find that, despite being exposed to the August heat — which often climbs to around 100 degrees Fahrenheit in San Antonio — the puppies were in surprisingly good condition.

“We were worried about the impact the heat had on them,” ACS public relations manager Lisa Norwood told The Dodo. “Thankfully, the puppies were just a little dehydrated and very hungry!”

Recuperation and Fostering

The puppies began a slow but steady recovery, regaining strength and learning to trust humans again. One of the five pups was quickly adopted into a loving home. The remaining four were transferred to the Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL), where each found a caring foster family.

“Their future looks bright, and they’re getting a second chance at finding happy homes of their own,” Norwood said. “The ADL fosters are really giving them an opportunity to learn how to ‘dog.’”

Today, the pups are thriving, safe, and surrounded by love. Thanks to the quick action of ACS and the dedication of foster families, these abandoned puppies are growing strong and healthy, with a bright future ahead.

“These puppies are safe, loved, and growing strong,” Norwood said. “We’re thrilled they’ll never have to feel alone again.”
