Thrown Away But Not Forgotten: Six Puppies Rescued From a Sealed Box in El Hierro
What began as a simple home renovation project on the small Spanish island of El Hierro turned into a life-saving mission, thanks to the sharp eyes — and kind hearts — of two friends.
While tossing construction debris near a local dumpster, the pair noticed a cardboard box, sealed shut but strangely punctured with holes. Curious and concerned, they peeled away the tape.
Inside, staring back with wide, innocent eyes, were five tiny puppies.
“The two men were deeply hurt by such cruelty,” a representative from El Juaclo, a local animal rescue, told The Dodo. Without hesitation, the friends called the organization for help.
Rescue volunteer Vanesa quickly arrived and helped safely transport the pups to a foster home. But the story wasn’t over yet. The very next day, a sixth puppy — missed in the initial chaos — was found nearby and gently reunited with the litter.
At first, the puppies seemed healthy, but within days, their condition worsened. They developed diarrhea and became alarmingly lethargic. Thanks to quick action and round-the-clock care, they received antibiotics and, within 48 hours, were bouncing back with tails wagging.
The rescue left a mark not only on the puppies, but on their rescuers as well. Both men who found them decided to adopt, giving two of the puppies loving forever homes. Two more soon found families of their own. The final two are still waiting for that perfect match — ideally, someone with an active lifestyle ready for games of fetch and endless puppy energy.
One thing is certain: their days of being discarded are over. With the support of a caring community and a little luck, these six brave souls now have a future as bright as their spirits.
