Embark on a journey with the Mendocino Land Trust (MLT) and witness the spectacular return of Behren’s silverspot butterfly to the Northern California coastline!

Fueled by a generous $1.5 million grant from the State of CA Wildlife Conservation Board, this multi-stage, four-year plan is set to transform 53 acres of coastal landscape.

Join us as we plant 35,000 early blue violets, the exclusive food source for the vibrant caterpillars, alongside a lush array of native plants. Invasive grasses have dwindled the footprint of these small purple flowering plants, but together, we can restore the natural beauty from Salt Point Park in Sonoma County to the Mendocino Headlands and beyond.

This spring, witness the magical release of scores of Behren silverspot caterpillars, expertly bred in captivity by Speyeria Conservation and Research. These resilient creatures, having undergone ‘diapause’ during winter, are ready to blossom and bring life back to the coastline.

Support the cause of ecological restoration – let’s paint the Northern California coastline with the wings of Behren’s silverspot butterfly! πŸŒΏπŸ¦‹
