“She came along with me” ❤️
On a balmy December day in La Azulita, Venezuela, Sarah Penso embarked on a leisurely bike ride through her picturesque hometown. Swiftly pedaling along a dirt path, the competitive mountain biker was engrossed in her training regimen when she was suddenly startled by a flash of white at her feet.
To her astonishment, a tiny puppy with a coat of blonde fur dashed towards her, barking fervently and seemingly intent on defending her. Puzzled, Penso scanned the surroundings in search of the puppy’s origin, only to be struck by a disheartening realization.
“I stumbled upon her in a remote area, far from any signs of human habitation,” Penso recounted on Instagram. “The absence of nearby homes led me to believe that she was without an owner.”
The puppy’s barks, initially mistaken for protective yelps, soon revealed themselves to be desperate cries for assistance. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Penso resolved to intervene and rescue her newfound furry companion. However, her initial efforts proved futile.
“I attempted to place her in my backpack, but it proved to be too challenging,” Penso recounted. “Yet, undeterred, she persisted in following me.”
Undeterred by the setback, Penso opted to cycle back home, hopeful that the persistent puppy would remain in her vicinity. True to her hopes, the dog, later christened Neblina, trailed behind Penso’s bike, unwilling to be left behind. Eventually, after a determined chase, Neblina acquiesced to being scooped up and nestled into the safety of Penso’s backpack.
“When I spoke to her, it was like she understood every word,” Penso wrote. “And she willingly followed me. After carrying her for 50 kilometers on my shoulders, she finally arrived at her new home.”
Neblina was overwhelmed with gratitude as she entered her new abode for the first time, immediately forming a deep bond with her loving mom and doting grandparents. After a long day of being rescued, Neblina nestled into her mom’s arms and drifted off to sleep, marking the beginning of many cozy nights together.
“Since arriving home, she’s been showered with love and attention,” Penso shared in an Instagram post. “She sleeps with me and behaves like royalty.”
As the holiday season drew to a close, Penso found herself facing a dilemma. Living in Caracas, the bustling capital city, she had only been visiting her parents when she stumbled upon Neblina. Initially planning to take the dog back to Caracas with her in the new year, Penso soon realized that Neblina thrived in the comfort of her parents’ home.
“She’s absolutely ecstatic with her grandparents, where she has plenty of space to run and play,” Penso wrote. “I miss her dearly, but her happiness in La Azulita is what matters most.”
Neblina has flourished since her adoption, growing stronger and more energetic with each passing day. While she occasionally finds herself in playful mischief, her family adores her for it.
“Like every spirited girl, she manages to find herself in a bit of trouble,” Penso shared on Instagram. “She has a penchant for swiping her grandpa’s sweets and nibbling on her grandma’s plants. Nonetheless, she remains the reigning princess of our household, thoroughly spoiled and utterly loved.”
