Motorists on Essex Regiment Way got an unusual surprise last week β not from reckless drivers or criminals, but from a wandering family of swans.
Police were called after two adult swans and their four cygnets were spotted dangerously close to the busy roadway near Chelmsford. Officers quickly arrived to prevent any accidents and gently guided the birds to a safer location.
Chief Inspector Jennifer Bliss commended the quick response of her officers:
βIβm glad we were able to move this young family away from a hazardous spot. Our teams are trained to deal with all sorts of incidents, so they were more than prepared for this. Iβd also like to thank the drivers for their patience β situations like this could have ruffled some feathers, but everyone handled it calmly.β
Essex Police reminded residents that while their duties often involve serious matters, theyβre always ready to step in when unexpected challenges β even feathered ones β cross their path.
