“This was like a, ‘Ha, take that, guys, this is what you get for making me exercise!’”
When Arya’s mom noticed that Arya was gaining a bit of weight, she decided to enroll her in physical therapy at Four Paws Animal Hospital, where she works as a receptionist.
“She’s always been an active dog, but as a single mom, our walks haven’t been as frequent as they used to be, and she just needed a little help to shed some pounds,” Angelina, Arya’s mom, shared.
Angelina hoped that walking on the underwater treadmill would give Arya the boost she needed, but Arya had other plans.
“She’s not a fan of the treadmill,” Angelina admitted. “She usually loves water, but the underwater treadmill is another story.”
One day, while Arya reluctantly trudged along on the treadmill, her physical therapy technician, Hannah, decided to toss a pool noodle into the water as a distraction. The intention was to entertain Arya, but she quickly turned the pool noodle into her new favorite toy.
“She was just carrying it in her mouth at first, almost like it was a support for her,” Angelina said. “Then she began to shake it and tear it apart.”
Arya decided that if she was going to be forced to exercise, she was going to make sure everyone in the room regretted it.
“Once she tore off a smaller piece, Hannah started to remove the bigger pieces, and Arya used the remaining part to dive under the water and shake it aggressively,” Angelina explained. “That’s when the big splashes began. It was like she was saying, ‘Ha, take that, guys! This is what you get for making me exercise!’”
Arya’s splashes were so intense that water was flying all over the room, drenching her mom, the technicians, and even other patients going about their sessions. Arya was clearly delighted with her antics, and everyone could only laugh at the scene.
When her 20 minutes were up, Arya continued to clutch her piece of shredded pool noodle with pride. She hoped the spectacle would make everyone think twice about making her exercise again — but it mainly just made them reconsider using pool noodles.
