“Eating bacon and hot dogs in the rain. I think it’s perfect.”
Pete Alonso was thrilled to go on a Dodo Dream Date — but while he was excited to meet his furry companion for the day, Danish the dog had his sights set on something else: Pete’s dogs.
The moment Danish arrived, he made a beeline right past Pete and straight to Apollo and Brody, Pete’s pups who were eagerly watching from behind a glass door.

“I know you want to make friends,” Pete said with a laugh in a video for The Dodo.
After a little coaxing, Pete managed to guide Danish away from the door so their date could officially begin. Despite the rainy weather, Pete had planned a fun pool day — but Danish, being the free spirit he is, had other ideas. Fetch was much more his style, and luckily for him, Pete, a professional baseball player, was more than happy to play along.

Partway through the date, Pete surprised Danish with a custom-made handkerchief jersey. Danish proudly trotted around wearing it while Pete asked him a few silly “Would You Rather?” questions, keeping the vibe light and playful.
As Danish explored the backyard, Pete fired up the grill and started cooking hot dogs. While Danish initially kept his independence, his attention quickly shifted once he caught the scent of hot dogs in the air.
“We always try and be an ally and support shelters,” Pete said, referencing his work with The Alonso Foundation, which focuses on helping animals in need.

Danish’s excitement hit a whole new level when Pete brought out a piñata filled with dog treats. Pete handled the smashing duties while Danish eagerly scooped up the rewards — the perfect team. After their treat-filled adventure, the two settled in to share a plate of hot dogs.
“Eating bacon and hot dogs in the rain,” Pete said with a smile. “I think it’s perfect.”
Danish is still waiting to find his forever home — one filled with room to run, plenty of games of fetch, and maybe even a few backyard barbecues. And if he’s lucky, a dog sibling or two to greet first on every occasion.
