Kelli Miller and her 15-year-old daughter, Jordan, were preparing to play pickleball at a park in South Carolina when a concerned woman approached them with urgent news about three abandoned puppies in need of rescue. She explained that the puppies were stranded by the park’s brook, with no parents around.

Acting quickly, Miller and her daughter rushed to the brook. To their dismay, they found the puppies not only alone but also trapped in the water, unable to escape. “They weren’t trying to drink; they were immobilized by sheer fear,” Miller recounted.

Without hesitation, Jordan sprang into action, descending into the creek to rescue the puppies. The smallest of the trio was almost completely submerged in the fast-moving water, adding urgency to her efforts.

“I don’t think [he] would have lasted for too long,” Miller said. “He was freezing. I mean, he was really wet and shaking.”

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for Jordan to successfully rescue the puppies.

As for how the puppies ended up in such a predicament, Miller isn’t sure. While she hopes a stray dog might have had her puppies nearby, she suspects it’s more likely they were abandoned there.

The puppies were sopping wet from being stuck in the water. Miller and her daughter placed them in the bed of Miller’s truck, providing a dry, warm place for them to rest.

Miller was relieved to find that, despite their frightening ordeal, the puppies seemed like they were going to be just fine.

“On the whole, they didn’t seem too bad. I don’t think they’d been in the brook for too long,” Miller said.

Miller called a local K9 unit, who promptly arrived and transported the puppies to the Florence Area Humane Society. At the shelter, they were given names: Shep, Vin, and Caspar. All three puppies are now available for adoption, and Miller expressed optimism that they would find loving homes quickly.

β€œWe were just grateful that we were able to help,” Miller said.
