“He’s so sweet and so special”
A Senior Dog Who Touched Every Heart
The staff at PAWS Shelter of Central Texas care deeply for every animal they rescue. Still, some dogs leave a stronger mark than others. One senior black Lab named Teddy has done just that.
Teddy has been at the shelter for nearly ten months. Each time he is passed over, it hurts the people who care for him.

A Sudden Goodbye
Teddy arrived at the shelter in February 2025. He had just been surrendered by the family he spent most of his life with. At 7 years old, the change was confusing and painful for him.

The staff wished they could explain what was happening. Instead, they focused on helping him feel safe.
Settling Into Shelter Life

The first few days were hard. The shelter was new and overwhelming. Still, Teddy slowly adjusted.
Before long, his personality began to shine. His playful behavior and goofy habits made him a favorite among staff members.
A Love for Toys and Fetch
Teddy quickly showed his love for playing fetch. He also became attached to stuffed toys.

Plush toys turned into his comfort items. He carried one everywhere he went. During walks, he proudly held his toy and checked to see who was watching.
Finding Comfort While Waiting
Months passed, but Teddy was still overlooked. He leaned on his toys for comfort and on the staff for affection.
Teddy loves people. He seeks attention and enjoys being close to those who care for him.
What Teddy Needs Most
Teddy doesn’t ask for much. He needs loving hands, a cozy couch, and space to play. Most of all, he wants a family to call his own.
Still Hoping for the Right Home
The shelter staff continue to hope Teddy’s family will find him soon. Until then, they shower him with love and plenty of stuffed toys.
Teddy is gentle, sweet, and special. The people who adopt him will be lucky — and worth every moment of the wait.
