“He might not be the prettiest kitty, but he doesn’t need a filter to find love … “
Meet Cooper — an affectionate 8-year-old cat with a heart full of love and a deep appreciation for cuddles. Tragically, a few months ago, Cooper’s life changed when his family lost their home and had to surrender him to the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC). Since then, HSBC’s staff and volunteers have cherished the chance to get to know his sweet, gentle nature.

“Cooper is a gentle, mellow lap cat who has known a loving home his entire life,” HSBC shared on TikTok.
Given Cooper’s warm personality and easygoing demeanor, everyone expected him to be adopted quickly. But as days turned into weeks, and then months, Cooper remained at the shelter — overlooked again and again.

His caregivers began to suspect that perhaps his unique facial markings were playing a role. At first glance, the smudges around his nose and mouth may look like dirt — but they’re simply part of his natural appearance.
“[He] might not be the prettiest kitty, but he doesn’t need a filter to find love,” HSBC wrote. “No, he’s not dirty — those are just his markings.”

It’s heartbreaking to think that something so superficial could keep people from discovering how special Cooper truly is. What he needs is someone who not only looks past his differences but embraces them. “It’s heartbreaking to see other animals go home while Cooper continues to wait, especially knowing how special he is,” a representative from HSBC told The Dodo.
In hopes of helping Cooper find his forever family, an HSBC donor has already covered his adoption fee. And this lovable guy is the total package — he’s great with dogs, cats, kids, adults, and seniors alike. “He’ll curl up in your lap and stay there for as long as you’ll let him,” HSBC added.
Although the staff and volunteers will miss him dearly, they know Cooper deserves a home of his own.
“He’s going to make some lucky family incredibly happy,” HSBC said. “And we like to believe he’s been waiting this long because the perfect home is still on its way.”
