“All of his siblings were adopted one by one …”

A Puppy With a One-of-a-Kind Nose

A few weeks ago, a litter of 3-month-old puppies arrived at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. Volunteer Bri immediately noticed one puppy who stood out from the rest.

His name was Ace, and his nose was unlike any she had ever seen. A faint line ran down the middle of his snout, splitting it into two distinct sections. It gave him a unique, almost magical look that made him instantly memorable.

A Special Feature, Not a Problem

This unusual trait is called a bifid or cleft nose. The best part? It’s purely cosmetic. It doesn’t affect Ace’s health or ability to thrive in any way.

Bri thought the nose was just a cute quirk, one of those little things that make some pets unforgettable. But a week later, she returned to the shelter and noticed something concerning: all of Ace’s littermates had already found homes—but he hadn’t.

Overlooked Because of Appearance?

“All of his siblings were adopted one by one, but Ace kept getting passed over,” said Caitie’s Foster Fam, who later welcomed him into foster care. “We can’t figure out why. Maybe it’s because of his nose.”

It was hard to imagine anyone ignoring a puppy so full of life and personality. Ace was playful, friendly, and loved meeting new people. Yet somehow, adopters overlooked him, focusing only on his unique look rather than the loving pup he was.

A Loving Foster Home

Thankfully, Ace’s wait didn’t last long. Caitie’s Foster Fam noticed him and quickly brought him into a temporary foster home. They renamed him Wabi-Sabi, inspired by the Japanese philosophy that celebrates beauty in imperfection. The name perfectly reflected his adorable uniqueness.

In his new foster home, Wabi-Sabi was surrounded by care and attention. His foster mom showered him with snuggles, playtime, and gentle guidance. The little puppy was curious and eager to explore his surroundings, always sniffing, hopping, and discovering new corners of his temporary home.

A Personality That Shines

As Wabi-Sabi settled in, his playful and loving personality became impossible to ignore. He quickly learned new skills, including sitting on command, and loved chasing toys and exploring the yard.

Despite his past as an overlooked puppy in the shelter, he remained affectionate and trusting. He craved human connection and wasn’t afraid to show it, curling up in laps for snuggles or nudging his foster mom for attention.

Social media followers quickly fell in love with him. Comments poured in, praising his “heart-shaped” nose and saying things like, “I don’t see imperfection—only sweetness!”

Ready for Forever

Now, Wabi-Sabi is thriving, but what he truly needs is a permanent home. He deserves a family who will embrace every part of him, from his split nose to his big, loving heart.

Caitie’s Foster Fam is confident the right family is out there. “We promised him we would help him find his forever family, just like his siblings,” they said.

With his playful spirit, adorable looks, and gentle personality, Wabi-Sabi won’t stay waiting for long. Any family lucky enough to adopt him will gain a pup who brings joy, love, and laughter into every day.
