When Barack Obama began his second term in the White House, the Obama family added another four-legged member to their household.
Her name was Sunny.
By then, the family was already familiar with life in the White House alongside their first dog, Bo. But Sunny brought a personality all her own, quickly becoming an important part of the family and changing their daily routine in the best possible way.
From the beginning, Sunny seemed completely at home.
She formed a close bond with Bo and became a devoted companion to Malia and Sasha. She also appeared to embrace life as a presidential pet, often staying close to the people working around the White House.
Barack Obama later recalled that Sunny enjoyed following members of his team as they went about their jobs, almost as if she believed she was helping them.
For the next 13 years, Sunny remained a constant presence in the Obama family’s life.
On September 15, the family announced that she had died.
Obama shared a heartfelt tribute to Sunny, remembering the personality, loyalty and energy she brought to their home throughout her life.
He described her as a loving companion who was always ready for something new and remained spirited until the end.
“But as far as our family was concerned, she was pretty much perfect, and for thirteen years, she would be by our side — always loyal, always sweet, always ready for adventure, still fiery and gorgeous till the very end of her days,” Obama wrote.
