Biscuit didn’t exactly wait around for someone to choose her.
About seven years ago, when she was still only a few months old, the orange kitten wandered onto a man’s doorstep and effectively chose her family herself.
She was taken in and quickly became a beloved part of the household.
For years, Biscuit lived an ordinary, happy life.
Then her family noticed something strange.
Her nose was getting bigger.
At first, no one knew exactly what was causing the unusual swelling. Eventually, veterinarians discovered that Biscuit had developed cryptococcosis, a fungal infection that can affect cats.
Although the condition is often treatable, Biscuit’s case turned out to be unusually difficult.
She became seriously ill, and the swelling around her nose continued to increase.
At one point, Biscuit was so sick that she needed a feeding tube to make sure she was receiving enough nutrition.
Her family worked closely with her veterinary team, trying different approaches until they found a treatment plan that began to work.
Slowly, Biscuit started improving.
The amount of fungus in her body decreased, her strength began returning and she was eventually able to eat normally again.
But one thing didn’t change.
Her enlarged nose remained.
Biscuit’s family explained in an Instagram update that the swelling is connected to damage caused by the infection.
“Biscuit’s veterinary team is the best, and they’ve been involved in her care for years now,” her family wrote. “The swelling on her nose is from her fungal infection growing and forming scar tissue.”
Because of several medical factors, surgery isn’t considered a safe option for Biscuit.
That means her distinctive nose will likely remain exactly as it is.
Fortunately, Biscuit doesn’t appear bothered by it.
Her family says she can still breathe comfortably, eat without assistance, run around, play and enjoy all the normal activities she loves.
“The good news is that she still has a great quality of life, even with her big nose,” her family shared. “She can breathe, eat on her own, play, run, purr and give her humans all the love.”
As Biscuit’s family began documenting her recovery on Instagram, people online quickly became attached to the uniquely adorable cat.
Her large nose may be the first thing strangers notice, but to the people who know her best, it’s only a small part of who she is.
After everything she has been through, Biscuit remains affectionate, energetic and surrounded by people determined to give her the best life possible.
And judging by Biscuit’s attitude, she seems far more interested in playing, purring and getting attention than worrying about looking different.
