“She’s having fun.”
A few months ago, Reddit user Sirr13 noticed something puzzling happening in his home. Morning after morning, he’d wake up to find a corner of his kitchen floor submerged under a gallon of water.
The source of the flood wasn’t a complete mystery—his newly purchased water bowl for his three cats was always suspiciously empty. But how was the water ending up everywhere but inside the bowl?
Determined to uncover the culprit, Sirr13 set up a hidden camera aimed at the scene of the crime. The footage, captured at 4:30 in the morning, finally revealed the mischievous mastermind: his long-haired cat, Smudge.
But Smudge wasn’t sneaking over for a midnight drink—she was on a mission of pure chaos.
For reasons known only to her, Smudge had developed a habit of enthusiastically pawing at the water bowl, splashing with reckless abandon. And with an unapologetic flick of her soaked paws, it was clear she had absolutely no concerns about the mess she was creating.
When Sirr13 reviewed the footage, he couldn’t help but laugh.
“I was cracking up when I pulled up the footage after discovering a lake on the floor the next morning,” he told The Dodo. “She seemed so proud of the huge mess she made.”
Luckily, Smudge isn’t flooding the floor every morning, but Sirr13 has decided to embrace her quirky new hobby. His solution? A highly absorbent mat placed under the water bowl, so Smudge can splash to her heart’s content—without turning the kitchen into a miniature swimming pool.
“She’s having fun,” Sirr13 said—and really, that’s all that matters.
