On New Year’s Day, Joel and his husband were taking their dog, Wellington, for a peaceful walk around their neighborhood when something unusual caught their attention. Standing quietly outside their home was a large, snow-white dog they had never seen before.
“There was this beautiful white dog in the front yard,” Joel shared in a video for The Dodo.
A Lost and Frightened Visitor
The mysterious Great Pyrenees looked scared and severely underweight. Realizing she needed help, Joel immediately brought her inside, wrapped her in warmth, and gave her food. He posted her photo in local community groups, hoping someone might recognize her — but no one responded.

A visit to the vet confirmed there was no microchip and no clues about where she came from. With no owner in sight, the once-lost dog finally had a safe place to stay.
Falling in Love
As days passed, Joel found himself growing attached to the gentle pup. He named her Waco and officially welcomed her into their family.
“She had to learn what treats were,” Joel said. “Even playing with toys seemed completely new to her.”
It was clear Waco hadn’t experienced much love before — and she was slowly discovering what it meant to be a cherished pet.
Something Isn’t Quite Right
Over time, Joel and his husband noticed Waco gaining weight. At first, they assumed it was simply because she was finally being well-fed. But soon, the changes became impossible to ignore.

“Right back to the vet we went,” Joel said. “And that’s when we got some unexpected news.”
The Big Revelation
Waco wasn’t just putting on healthy weight — she was pregnant.
The couple had believed they rescued one dog, but suddenly realized they were about to rescue nine.
“It was a quick flood of panic,” Joel admitted. “‘Oh my God, what are we gonna do?’”
Eight New Lives
In February, on the night of the Super Bowl, Waco went into labor and gave birth to eight healthy puppies.
“She instantly went into mom mode,” Joel said. “She just knew exactly what to do.”
The once-frightened stray turned out to be a natural, caring mother.
A Perfect Ending
By May, all eight puppies had grown strong and found loving forever homes. Waco, now spayed and settled, could finally relax and enjoy life with her new family — alongside Wellington and her two devoted humans.
Joel says he’s endlessly grateful for the experience. What began as a random New Year’s Day encounter became one of the most meaningful moments of his life.
Waco wasn’t just a surprise guest — she became the miracle that changed everything. 🐶✨
