“Oh my God, you’re tiny!” When Arizona Humane Society (AHS) received a call about loud cries emanating from the ceiling of an apartment building, they weren’t sure what — or who — to expect. AHS dispatched two emergency animal medical technicians, Kenzee and Julie, to investigate the situation and attempt a rescue of whoever was stuck in the ceiling.
Upon arriving at the scene, the two technicians followed the cries for help. Using heat sensors, they pinpointed the exact location the cries were originating from, then carefully cut a hole in the ceiling. Kenzee reached up into the opening, and to her surprise, she pulled out the smallest fuzzball who had been making all that noise.
“Oh my God, you’re tiny,” Kenzee exclaimed, as she safely retrieved the tiny creature.
The ceiling invader turned out to be an incredibly tiny 2-week-old kitten, later named Nala. As she was finally freed from her predicament, she let out one last cry of relief as loudly as she could before settling into her rescuer’s arms.
Given Nala’s tender age and diminutive size, her rescuers wasted no time in rushing her back to AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital so she could receive the urgent care she needed. It was undoubtedly fortunate that she was rescued when she was, as the little kitten was underweight, dehydrated, and adorned with minor cuts on her abdomen. Moreover, she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Nala wouldn’t have lasted much longer on her own — which likely explained why she had been crying out so loudly for someone to come to her aid.
After a few days of tender care in the hospital, Nala received a clean bill of health and was whisked away to her foster home. But what makes her story truly heartwarming is that her rescuer, Kenzee, stepped up to foster her. Now, under Kenzee’s devoted care for several months, Nala has blossomed into a strong and spirited kitten, ready to find her forever home.
Nala’s journey could have ended tragically if she hadn’t found her voice and cried out for help with all her might. Her perseverance paid off, and now she’s on the brink of a new chapter filled with love and happiness, surrounded by a family who will cherish her forever.
