“He has watched 1,239 sunrises through the windows of our shelter and spent 107,111,965 seconds dreaming of a family.” Meet Smokey β€” a social, affectionate rescue pup with soulful brown eyes and perky ears. Years ago, Smokey arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA, eager for his life to change. Initially underweight and excitable, Smokey received dedicated care from patient animal experts who helped him regain strength and learn good manners. Soon, he started hoping for a forever family.

Four years have passed, and Smokey is still waiting. “In his 40 months of waiting, only a handful of people have inquired about him,” the Pennsylvania SPCA shared in a Facebook post. “He has watched 1,239 sunrises through the windows of our shelter and spent 107,111,965 seconds dreaming of a family.”

As each month goes by, the staff at Pennsylvania SPCA are increasingly puzzled by Smokey’s continued wait for a home. They believe he has all the qualities to be someone’s ideal companion, eagerly waiting for the opportunity to prove it.

β€œI love his fierce loyalty,” Smokey’s friend, a volunteer at the Pennsylvania SPCA, told The Dodo. β€œHe looks at me with such devotion, and he frequently checks in by glancing back at me during our walks. He’s also stunning, with deep black fur complemented by rich brown highlights. It’s hard to capture his true magnificence in photos, but in person, he’s truly spectacular.”

Smokey is the perfect companion for someone seeking to stay active.

β€œSmokey adores walks,” the volunteer continued. β€œHe particularly enjoys exploring quieter areas where he can take in various scents and relax. Plus, he’s a fan of playing fetch and tug-of-war.”

The affectionate pup would thrive in a home with adults or older children. While Smokey can handle passing other dogs outdoors, he would prefer to be the sole dog in his household.

β€œHe would do well with a family or individual who enjoys training and engaging in dog sports,” the volunteer explained. β€œWhether in the city or countryside, Smokey is adaptable as long as he receives love and companionship.”

With hope, Smokey won’t have to wait much longer.

β€œIf you have space in your heart for a dog who embodies resilience, please consider giving Smokey a chance,” urged the Pennsylvania SPCA in a heartfelt Facebook post. β€œLet’s rewrite his story together and show him that love knows no limits.”
