“I assumed he would never walk again.”

A few years ago, a small Romanian dog named Tycho found himself in a dire situation. After being struck by a car and abandoned by the driver, Tycho was left with severe injuries that left him unable to move his legs or tail.

Lying helpless in a muddy ditch by the roadside, Tycho watched as car after car passed him by, unsure if anyone would stop to help. Then, finally, someone did. Elisa Dumitrescu, a dedicated rescuer from Do Good Romania, spotted the struggling pup, scooped him up, and rushed him to the vet.

At first, the cause of his paralysis was unclear. The vets suspected he had a herniated disc, and began efforts to help him regain movement. But after the first week, Dumitrescu feared the worst. β€œHe wasn’t responding to treatment, so I thought he might never walk again,” Dumitrescu shared with The Dodo.

Then, a miracle happened.

After nine days of care, Tycho’s tail started to wag. That small sign of movement sparked a dramatic turn in his recovery. β€œOnce he showed that first bit of movement, his progress picked up quickly,” Dumitrescu recalled.

Incredibly, what seemed like a hopeless case blossomed into a bright future. Within weeks, Tycho was walking, wiggling with joy, and even jumping around. His healing journey didn’t stop there. Thanks to Dumitrescu’s dedication and the vet’s care, Tycho’s life was completely transformed.

Eventually, Tycho was transferred to a loving family in the UK through Do Good Romania’s adoption program. Now, Tycho is living his best life with his new parents and dog sibling. He enjoys long walks, playing with other dogs, and even chasing after them with boundless energy.

Tycho’s journey from tragedy to triumph is a testament to the power of compassion and second chances.
