A conservation center in Kent is seeking assistance after one of its exotic animals escaped.
Keepers at Hemsley Conservation Centre near Fairseat discovered on Sunday that one of its tayras had exited its enclosure due to damage to the weld mesh.
The tayra, belonging to the weasel family, was last sighted at 15:00 BST on Monday near Brands Hatch by the A20.
Expressing concern, a spokesperson for the conservation center stated: “Our keepers are understandably distressed, and her well-being is our top priority.”
“We have notified the local authorities and are confident in our ability to safely recover her, but we require your help to do so,” the spokesperson continued in a social media post.
The center mentioned it was conducting a thorough investigation and couldn’t discount the possibility of foul play.
Anyone spotting the tayra, native to Central and South America, is urged not to approach it and to promptly contact the center.
