“This is the best day of my life.”
Kathryn Hahn’s Adorable Dream Date
When actress Kathryn Hahn was set up on a Dodo Dream Date, she felt a little nervous. But the moment her date arrived, all of her worries melted away, and the two formed an instant connection.
Meeting Layla: The Sweet Stray Puppy
Kathryn’s date was Layla, a 2-month-old puppy who had been rescued as a stray. No one knew where Layla had come from or why such a sweet puppy had been abandoned. Kathryn was immediately smitten and vowed to help Layla find a loving home.
“We’re gonna try to find a beautiful home for this angel,” Kathryn said, admiring Layla’s playful energy. Though Layla was all black—a color that can sometimes make pets harder to adopt—Kathryn, who stars in the upcoming Disney+ series “Agatha All Along,” embraced Layla’s misunderstood charm.
A Day of Fun and Creativity
The pair’s date took place at Kathryn’s Los Angeles apartment, where they decided to do a fun, creative craft project together: painting with peanut butter! Layla’s excitement was infectious, and although she knocked a few things over, Kathryn took it in stride.
“I’m so with you, I like a passionate artist,” Kathryn laughed as they rolled around, fully immersed in the fun.
A Surprise Visitor: Liam the Kitten
In the middle of their painting session, faint meows from the background revealed that Kathryn had a second date — Liam, a 3-month-old black kitten who was also surrendered to the shelter. Like Layla, Liam had likely been overlooked due to his black fur.
With both animals now part of the date, Kathryn quickly pivoted to a new group activity: making pet-friendly “potions” to sample together. Layla and Liam bonded instantly, adding even more joy to the playful day.
Black Pets Deserve Love Too
As the date wrapped up, Kathryn reflected on the challenges that black cats and dogs face in shelters. “Black cats and dogs have a hard time being adopted because of superstition, but it’s ridiculous. All cats and dogs are gorgeous and perfect,” she said passionately.
Before saying goodbye, Layla and Liam were treated to some Hill’s Science Diet — part of the Hill’s Food, Shelter, and Love Program, which supports shelters across North America with nutrition for pets awaiting adoption.
A Happy Ending for Layla and Liam
Not long after their memorable date, Layla and Liam’s wait for forever homes came to an end. Both were adopted into loving families, where they’re now thriving and living their best lives.
