Lonely Pup Woody Marks 11th Birthday After Nearly a Decade in Kennels
A dog who has spent most of his life in kennels has celebrated his 11th birthday, making him one of Britain’s most overlooked pets, according to Dogs Trust.
Woody, a Shih Tzu-Poodle cross, arrived at the charity’s rehoming centre in Shoreham, West Sussex, in September 2015 after his previous owners struggled with some of his behaviors.
Assistant manager Michaela Wells said potential adopters have overlooked Woody due to his medical conditions, which are managed with regular medication.
“He deserves to spend his next birthday on a cosy sofa, not in a kennel,” she said.
Despite years of training, Woody is still waiting for a forever home.
“He’s an incredible dog—clever, playful, and full of personality. We adore him, but he needs a home of his own,” Ms. Wells added. “After a decade of waiting, we know there’s someone out there who’s the perfect match for Woody. We just need to find them.”
The centre’s staff are happy to discuss his health needs with potential adopters and provide guidance on managing his care at home.
A Special Celebration for a Special Dog
Although Woody has yet to find his forever family, staff at the Shoreham centre have ensured he never feels forgotten.
This year, as part of his role as a sponsor dog, Woody was showered with birthday cards, toys, and gifts from supporters.
Described as “the most intelligent dog we’ve ever worked with” and “one of a kind,” Woody remains hopeful that his next birthday will be spent in a loving home.
