On the outskirts of Prague, Czech Republic, sits the Thomayer University Hospital, a large medical center that treats around 50,000 patients every year. But not everyone visiting the hospital is there for medical care — some of the most notable “guests” have four legs and impressive horns.
Nestled beside a protected forest, the hospital grounds are frequently visited by local wildlife. And as one visitor’s video recently showed, some of those encounters are impossible to overlook.
The footage captured two mouflons — wild sheep native to the region — clashing dramatically near the hospital. During mating season, male mouflons engage in headbutting duels to establish dominance, and the echoing sounds of their horns have become a familiar part of life around the facility.
While wild sheep might seem out of place at a hospital, the staff at Thomayer University Hospital not only tolerate their presence — they celebrate it.
“Mouflons are an integral part of our hospital and are our uncrowned mascot,” the hospital shared online. “Our herd now numbers around one hundred.”
These majestic animals have unintentionally taken on a therapeutic role. Their calm presence and natural beauty offer comfort and joy to both patients and healthcare workers.
“Every year, new lambs are born, and they bring smiles to almost everyone,” the hospital added. “For our patients — and not only them — these adorable creatures have a positive effect and can even support recovery through a form of natural therapy.”
In fact, some patients reportedly choose Thomayer University Hospital precisely because of its connection to nature and its resident mouflons. And for those who witness the herd wandering peacefully across the hospital grounds, it’s easy to understand why — sometimes, a little bit of wildlife can be the best medicine of all.
