So cute and cozy π
Two years ago, a fragile 2-week-old sphynx kitten arrived at SPCA Merced β and staff members werenβt sure he would survive.
The tiny kitten was battling a severe upper respiratory infection so advanced that it caused his left eye to bulge and rupture. He weighed only 8.5 ounces and was far too weak to undergo the surgery he desperately needed.
Still, the team refused to give up.
They named him Sammie.
Too Tiny β But Not Forgotten
Because Sammie was a hairless sphynx cat, staying warm was critical to his recovery. Without fur, he became chilled quickly β and he was too small for standard kitten clothes.

So his foster caregivers got creative.
They cut up tube socks and turned them into miniature pajamas. The soft fabric kept him cozy, and the colorful designs made him irresistibly adorable.
Soon, Sammie earned the nickname βSammie in Jammies.β
Healing One Cozy Day At A Time
The warmth made a world of difference.
Within one week, Sammie gained nearly 3.5 ounces β growing from 8.5 ounces to almost 12 ounces. Over the next two weeks, he didnβt just improve β he began to thrive.
After about a month in care, Sammie finally grew strong enough for surgery. Veterinarians successfully removed his damaged eye, and he bounced back quickly.
Considering how sick and fragile he had been, his transformation felt nothing short of miraculous.
From Foster Favorite To Forever Home

Photos of Sammie in his tiny sock outfits captured hearts online. More than 40 adoption applications poured in.
After carefully reviewing them, SPCA Merced chose Eric and Chris β a couple who had completely fallen in love with the resilient little kitten.
Today, Sammie has upgraded from homemade sock jammies to stylish sweaters. Most importantly, he enjoys a warm home, devoted dads and a life filled with cuddles, treats and playtime.
What began as a heartbreaking surrender became a story of creativity, persistence and love.
And thanks to a few cleverly repurposed socks β and a team that refused to give up β Sammie now gets to live the cozy life he always deserved.
