“A school staff member took them home โค๏ธ Yolanda, a teacher at San Marcos High School in Texas, had an unexpected encounter on her way to work one morning. Out of nowhere, five lively puppies approached her.

She quickly enlisted the help of her coworker, Belinda Peรฑa, a senior administrative assistant at the school, upon realizing the puppies had been abandoned. They had escaped from a cardboard box left outside the school, scavenging for food and water.

“They were so thirsty,” Peรฑa recalled, as teachers and staff joined forces to provide the puppies with refreshment and relief from the summer heat.

The timing was crucial, as it was during the school’s limited summer hours. Peรฑa reflected, “If not for us, who knows what would have happened?”

While waiting for animal control, the staff couldn’t help but marvel at the adorable puppies. “They had these big old ears… just happy little puppies,” Peรฑa described fondly.

Moved by compassion, counselor Kay Lynn Dodd decided to take one puppy home immediately. Unable to part with the remaining four, she made the heartfelt decision to foster them herself after learning the shelter might not accommodate them that day.

“I couldn’t bear the thought,” Dodd shared. She arranged for their vaccinations and microchips before bringing them to her home.

In the month since their rescue, the puppiesโ€”Buttercup, Snickers, Bandit, and Rotundโ€”have thrived under Dodd’s care, gaining weight and growing in spirit.

Dodd emphasized the importance of finding loving forever homes for them, inviting potential adopters to apply through the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter’s online portal. She believes these resilient pups, after their challenging start, deserve nothing less than a safe and nurturing environment.
