“The odds may have seemed against him, but he never gave up,” ❤️

It’s not every day that a routine job turns into a rescue mission. However, one morning in Philadelphia, a Good Samaritan working on a property experienced just that when they noticed movement inside a discarded trash bag.

Alarmed, the worker swiftly tore open the bag and was astonished to discover a white and tan pit bull inside. The dog’s body and legs were rigid, and he could only move his head. With care, the Good Samaritan gently extracted the dog from the trash bag, placing him on a nearby piece of cardboard and covering him with a blanket before contacting local authorities for assistance.

Upon arrival at the Pennsylvania SPCA, the dog, later named Codi, prompted veterinarians to ponder his story.

“What had befallen this poor soul?” the Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a Facebook post about Codi. “Why had he been discarded like refuse?”

Veterinarians quickly discerned that Codi was unable to stand. They conducted numerous tests and ensured he received ample food and water. Rescuers stretched Codi’s limbs and administered massages to alleviate his discomfort. Eventually, the resilient pit bull took his first of many slow, cautious steps forward.

Eventually, Codi was ready to embark on the search for his forever home. The Pennsylvania SPCA spread the word by sharing Codi’s story on social media and featuring him on a local news channel. Soon, Codi caught the attention of his forever family.

Exactly one month had passed since he was discovered paralyzed inside that trash bag. Finally, Codi was on his way to his new home.

“The odds may have seemed against him, but he never gave up,” the Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a Facebook post about Codi’s adoption. “Last week, it all paid off.”

SPCA staff were thrilled for Codi. Surely, they’ll never forget this resilient dog who defied the odds.

“His recovery was pretty remarkable,” said Gillian Kocher, Pennsylvania SPCA director of public relations. “And though he’s still a little wobbly, he’s been adopted and is living the best life!”
