β€œShe was the most obese dog we had ever seen …”

When Sweet Tomato first found her way to the welcoming haven of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, the sight of her left her newfound companions utterly astonished.

This petite Chihuahua, who was expected to embody a delicate stature, instead bore the burden of an astonishing 30 pounds on her diminutive frame, a stark contrast to the healthy 10 pounds she should have carried.

Her past, marred by a diet primarily composed of sausage and eggs, unfolded into a narrative of Sweet Tomato’s astounding size, setting the stage for a journey filled with resilience, redemption, and the transformative power of love.”

When Sweet Tomato first graced the corridors of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, Patty Stanton, a witness to the unexpected, declared, ‘She was the most obese dog we had ever seen.’ Each movement seemed like an uphill battle; rising from a prone position was an arduous task, and a mere stroll turned into a daunting endeavor, requiring the aid of a stroller.

The gravity of Sweet Tomato’s excess weight extended its reach into every facet of her well-being, prompting her empathetic rescuers to embark on an urgent mission.

Acknowledging that her journey toward adoption hinged on a healthier existence, they orchestrated a move to a foster home, signaling the commencement of her transformative odyssey.

In the early days, Sweet Tomato’s steps were hesitant, her mobility curtailed. Yet, as the numbers on the scale dwindled, so did the barriers to her movement. The once-constrained Chihuahua discovered a newfound liberty, the elation evident as she sprinted through the grass.

Patty Stanton recounts the milestone moments, saying, ‘After three months, she had shed 10 pounds β€” a third of her weight. Six weeks later, the tally reached 14 pounds, and she reveled in the sheer delight of running!’

In a blink, Sweet Tomato underwent a metamorphosis, emerging as a canine redefined, ready for a home filled with love. Enter Amanda, her forever mom, and so commenced Sweet Tomato’s encore as Sox.

“Every day outdoors, she barks, ‘Hey, world, here I am!’ I’m convinced she has a touch of kangaroo in her,” Amanda shares with Muttville. Sox, once buckling under the weight of her existence, now vaults onto beds, couches, chairs, and, in moments of solitude, the kitchen table.
