Meet Sophia, a curious male duck recently treated for a toe issue through surgery. With Sophia needing a calm environment to recuperate, veterinarians decided to relocate him to the serene Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York.
Upon his arrival, Sophia crossed paths with Lemongrass, another duck with a rescue story of his own. Lemongrass had faced adversity in 2021 when found abandoned with a broken leg in a driveway. Having gone through his own healing journey, Lemongrass seemed to sense Sophia’s need for companionship and began sticking by his side. Their bond quickly grew inseparable, prompting rescuers to affectionately dub Lemongrass as Sophia’s “emotional support duck.”
“These days, Lemongrass and Sophia are inseparable, sharing their days snuggled up side by side,” shared Farm Sanctuary in a heartfelt statement. With Sophia’s recovery progressing well post-surgery, the duo now enjoys a variety of activities together.
“Their caregivers describe them as gentle and curious birds, often found chatting, eating, and preening together,” continued Farm Sanctuary. “And now that Sophia has healed sufficiently, they delight in splashing around in their kiddie pool, enjoying snacks in each other’s company!”
