“We … almost didn’t believe it was the same dog.”

After Toby’s initial rescue, Crowe’s family took over his care when her uncle fell ill.

“We’ve had dogs before and come from a big family, so we quickly stepped in to help him,” Crowe said.

Toby arrived at Crowe’s home in a state of extreme anxiety. Crowe knew that to help him start feeling better, the first step was a haircut. As they worked to shave away his matted fur, Toby’s true self began to emerge.

In another twist of events, Grayson, a cat who had come to the vet with Badowski, decided he’d had enough of his exam room. The room had dividers instead of solid walls, so Grayson took advantage of the situation. He slipped from the vet’s grasp, leaped onto the wall, and then into the ceiling, leaving everyone stunned.

Fortunately, the vet staff, experienced with a previous feral cat escape, quickly sprang into action. They retrieved a ladder, and the vet who had initially uncovered Grayson’s hiding spot climbed up to safely bring him back down.

Despite his reluctance to descend and the overwhelmed look on his face, Grayson was soon safely back in his carrier. Badowski left the vet not only with a cat now named Grayson but also with an amusing story to tell.
