In an unusual twist for firefighters, those in the city of Smolensk, Russia, came to the rescue of an injured owl they found near their fire station. The firefighters spotted the Ural owl being harassed by crows and swiftly intervened, shooing away the pesky birds.

They then brought the owl inside the station, where it was kept warm, fed, and cared for until it was strong enough to be taken to the vet.

Natalia Arbuzova, a press officer, recounted the rescue: “The owl was lying motionless with an injured wing and crows were pecking at it. When the firefighters saw it, they rushed to its aid, driving off the crows. They put the owl on a shovel and carried it inside the station.

It was placed in a box in a dark area to avoid aggravating its sensitivity to light, and they provided food.”

Thanks to the firefighters’ quick actions, the owl is now receiving treatment at the vet and is well on its way to recovery!
