β€œShe went crazy.”

The Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 have kicked off, and even in the early days, there have been numerous unforgettable moments. Gymnastics, a perennial favorite among fans, has captivated audiences worldwide. However, an unexpected group of spectators has emerged as particularly enthusiastic: cats.

As gymnasts perform their leaps, swings, tumbles, and twirls, cats around the globe are transfixed. Many seem to perceive the athletes as moving toys and are determined to catch them. Despite their efforts, none have succeeded so far. Some cats, like Theo, initially watch intently before pouncing in an attempt to intercept the gymnasts. Others, like Coop, are active from the first twirl. Erika Wilson, a pet parent, shared her experience of trying to get her cat, Slyvestina, to pay attention to her during the gymnastics competition, but Slyvestina was too engrossed to be distracted.

“She went crazy,” Wilson said. “She watched until the guy finished his set … We laughed because it was hilarious that she would not listen.”

Whether it’s the men’s or women’s team, the USA or another country, or any of the various gymnastics events, the cats are equally fascinated.

Perhaps some cats are aspiring to learn new skills. More likely, though, they are simply following the primary feline instinct: if it moves fast, try to catch it.
