She just needed someone to lend a hand ❤️

Meet Hopper, a brave mama dog who did everything she could to protect her babies.

This past April, Stray Rescue of St. Louis received a call about a sick dog wandering around a local farm. Rescuers headed out right away, driving through heavy rain to reach the property.

When they arrived, they spotted Hopper standing behind a gate, watching them nervously. She was in rough shape and had lost almost all of her fur, but even then, her attention kept shifting toward a nearby barn.

The rescuers could tell she was interested in them, but she was too scared to let anyone come close. So they set up a humane trap, hoping the hungry dog would step inside.

Before long, Hopper was safely secured.

But the rescue wasn’t finished yet.

The farm owner led the team through the mud toward a shed. Inside, tucked into a warm pile of hay, were Hopper’s three tiny puppies.

Even while she was sick and struggling, Hopper had managed to keep her babies safe, dry and protected from the rain. Her rescuers were amazed by how much she had done for them.

The team carefully gathered the puppies and brought the whole family back to the shelter. There, Hopper and her babies received warm baths, and staff gently washed the dirt from their fur.

At first, Hopper was unsure about being touched. She had likely never experienced real care before, and everything was new to her. But slowly, she began to relax. Eventually, she leaned into the kindness, realizing the people around her were there to help.

The rescue team began searching for a foster home where Hopper could nurse her puppies in peace. Thankfully, local dog advocates Randy and Debi Morgan offered to take in the entire family.

The puppies were named Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, and they are now safe with their mom in a quiet foster home.

After everything Hopper endured, she can finally rest. She no longer has to protect her babies alone or worry about keeping them warm in a barn. Now, she and her puppies are surrounded by comfort, care and love while they wait for the day they find their forever families.
