She was there at the exact moment the baby needed her.
A few days ago, Lucy Bolton was driving to her parentsβ house in Alabama when she noticed something unusual in the road ahead. Two red-tailed hawks were standing in the street, and one of them appeared to be holding something small and gray.
At first, Lucy thought the hawk had caught a squirrel. But as she drove closer, she realized the animal in the birdβs grip was not a squirrel at all.

It was a tiny gray kitten.
The kitten was squirming helplessly while the hawk held him tightly. Lucy immediately stopped her car, unsure if she would be able to help but knowing she had to try.

As Lucy got out and moved toward them, one hawk flew away. The second hawk tried to take off while still holding the kitten, but as he lifted into the air, he dropped the little cat onto the curb.

Lucy ran straight to him.
The kitten was terrified. He rolled onto his back, hissing and swiping at her in panic. After what he had just experienced, his reaction made perfect sense. Lucy carefully scooped him up and brought him safely into her car.
She had arrived just after the attack began, but just in time to save his life.

Not knowing exactly what to do next, Lucy called her old friend Jonna, who runs Woof Ave Rescue in Auburn, Alabama. After hearing what had happened, Jonna immediately agreed to help.
Amazingly, the kitten had escaped with only a few scratches. He was shaken and frightened, but he was going to be OK.

Because of the dramatic rescue, the little gray kitten was given the fitting name Hawk.
Rescuers believe Hawk may have been a stray. Now, he is healing in the care of Woof Ave Rescue and settling in with other rescued cats. Once he is healthy and ready, he will be placed up for adoption and given the chance to find a loving home.
If Lucy had not been driving by at exactly the right moment, Hawkβs story could have ended very differently. Instead, thanks to her quick action, the frightened kitten is safe and has a bright future ahead.
