They raced to help …
Not long ago, a young red-tailed hawk named Jersey was gliding near a bustling road in Kingston, New York. Unfortunately, she strayed too close to a passing car and ended up trapped within its grill.
Unable to break free from the moving vehicle, Jersey desperately clung to the grill, holding on for dear life.
Upon reaching their destination, the driver noticed Jersey’s wings frantically jutting out from the grill. Without hesitation, they contacted North Country Wild Care for assistance.
Before long, an experienced wildlife handler arrived, prepared to do everything necessary to ensure Jersey’s safety.
With great care, the rescuer carefully freed Jersey from her predicament, placed her in a carrier, and transported her to the wildlife care center for further evaluation.
Animal experts were relieved to discover that Jersey’s injuries were relatively minor and treatable. After some time, Jersey was moved to an outdoor enclosure, where she bonded with another rescue hawk who was also recovering from a car-related incident.
Rescuers are optimistic about Jerseyβs recovery.
‘The break isnβt complex, so it should heal well,’ wildlife rehabilitator Cara Huffman shared. ‘Once sheβs fully recovered, sheβll be transferred to another rehabilitator with a larger flight cage to regain her strength.’
Before long, Jerseyβs wings will be as strong as ever, and sheβll be ready to soar through the vast skies she once called home.”
