“[It’s] our team’s worst nightmare …”
Karla quickly pulled over to the side of the highway, determined to help the stray dog despite not having any rescue tools with her. She jumped out of the car, carefully weaving through traffic, and used gentle, calming techniques to gain the dog’s trust.

Luckily, her approach worked, and she was able to scoop the dog into her arms. Soon after, another volunteer, Alicia, arrived to help Karla safely cross the highway with the pup.
The dog, later named Sunset (Sunny), was exhausted and starving. She had been surviving on scraps tossed from passing cars, but now, she was finally safe.
TRAPRS found an emergency foster home for Sunny, though she still needs a permanent family. She would thrive in a calm and patient home, possibly with another relaxed dog.
While Sunny waits for her forever home, TRAPRS continues to care for her and remains grateful to the brave volunteer who risked everything to save her.
