“These fragile souls are incredibly lucky to be alive.” That sentiment echoed through the halls of Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Northeast (SNARR) in Brewster, New York, where seasoned rescuers were shaken by a recent call unlike any other in their 13 years of service.

“Two innocent puppies have endured unimaginable cruelty,” SNARR shared on Facebook. “They were thrown from a moving vehicle into a stream…”

The Labrador retriever-mix puppies had been hurled into a cold stream, where they struggled desperately to survive. One managed to claw its way out, but its sibling remained trapped, half-submerged and fighting for life.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan witnessed the heart-wrenching scene and leaped into action. Ignoring personal safety, they rescued the pups from the icy water and rushed them to SNARR’s headquarters without hesitation.

Exhausted, soaked, and terrified, the puppies were quickly examined by SNARR’s medical team. The rescuer’s swift action had saved them just in time.

“These fragile souls are incredibly lucky to be alive,” SNARR emphasized. “Thanks to a compassionate Good Samaritan who bravely rescued them from the stream, they now have a chance to survive.”

The puppies, later named Tucker and Charlotte, faced serious challenges upon arrival at SNARR. They battled parasites, water-filled lungs, and painful road rash across their bodies.

SNARR’s dedicated medical team immediately crafted a comprehensive treatment plan to address their physical ailments. Equally vital was the emotional support showered upon Tucker and Charlotte, aimed at easing their trauma and helping them heal.

“We have no idea what further challenges lie ahead, but we are determined to fight for their lives,” SNARR vowed, reflecting their unwavering commitment to these vulnerable pups.

With the nurturing care and affection provided at SNARR, Tucker and Charlotte began to flourish. Despite their harrowing ordeal, their personalities bloomed, and they showed remarkable progress in their medical treatments.

Within a few weeks under SNARR’s watchful eye, the puppy siblings were deemed ready for the next step: finding a foster home where they could continue their journey to recovery together.

The puppies soon found an amazing foster home, where they’ve been ever since. They now spend their days cuddling together on warm, snuggly beds and taking turns kissing their foster mom.

β€œTheir foster mom said they are absolutely the most adorable babies!” SNARR’s Lauren F. shared. β€œThey are playful and loving … and they get so excited when they get out of the kennel in the morning and see you for the first time!”

Tucker and Charlotte have completed their medical treatments and fully recovered from the accident. Despite this progress, they remain sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements, reminders of the emotional trauma they endured. However, their caregivers are dedicated to helping them build confidence each day.

While they await adoption, Tucker and Charlotte are cherishing their time with their foster mom, whose nurturing love continues to support their healing journey.

“They’re realizing they’re in a safe place now,” Laura remarked, reflecting on their progress.
