An animal welfare charity has reached a major milestone in its campaign to build a new wildlife hospital, raising nearly half of its £3.7 million fundraising goal.

The GSPCA confirmed that construction of the hospital’s walls is now underway as part of its Biggest Build Appeal, which has so far brought in more than £1.8 million. While progress is clearly visible on site, the charity says significant funding is still needed to complete the project.

Upcoming expenses include fitting solar panels — estimated at £65,000 per building — as well as upgrading the organisation’s IT systems at a cost of around £12,000.

To help close the funding gap, the charity is encouraging supporters to get involved by donating, purchasing commemorative bricks, or sponsoring individual rooms within the new facility.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said watching the hospital take shape has been hugely motivating, but emphasized that the project is far from finished.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the wildlife hospital coming together,” he said. “But from bricks to renewable energy, every contribution really does make a difference.”

The charity has also introduced a new information leaflet outlining the “buy a brick” initiative and other ways the public can support the appeal.

According to the GSPCA, every donation brings them one step closer to creating a better future for animals across Guernsey.
