“She wouldnโ€™t let anyone get close.”

When Shyan Noah, a passionate animal rescuer from Arkansas, came across a Facebook post about a mama dog and her puppies abandoned at an old house, she knew she had to intervene. Prior to her arrival, other rescuers had attempted to assist the mama dog but had been unsuccessful in winning her trust.

โ€œMama was extremely wary and wouldnโ€™t let anyone get near,โ€ Noah told The Dodo. Despite the challenges, a few of the puppies were retrieved while Mama was momentarily distracted, but there was still much work to be done.

Upon reaching the scene, Noah focused on gaining Mamaโ€™s trust. The frightened dog was hiding beneath the house, too scared to accept help.

โ€œI managed to earn Mamaโ€™s trust enough to feed her by hand and offer her gentle pats,โ€ Noah recounted.

Unfortunately, Noahโ€™s efforts alone werenโ€™t enough, so the team of rescuers decided to set a trap for Mama โ€” and their persistence paid off.

With Mama finally safe, the next challenge was locating all of her puppies. The frightened pups, just as wary of humans as their mother, hid under the abandoned house, doing their best to evade capture. But in time, the rescuers outwitted them and managed to bring them all to safety.

At last, the entire family was safe and sound.

โ€œThey were all infested with fleas and ticks,โ€ Noah explained. โ€œThey were initially very fearful and reactive to being touched, but theyโ€™ve quickly come to understand that they are safe with us.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™ve turned into happy, healthy little escape artists,โ€ Noah shared. โ€œThey love finding ways to slip through the gates of their foster room and join the rest of the house.โ€

Now part of Novastar Rescue, the family will soon be on their way to finding their forever homes.
