Ohio Trooper Rescues Dog From Busy Highway β And Briefly Loses His Job to Him
Earlier this month, Sergeant Brett Claxon of the Ohio State Highway Patrol found himself in an unexpected situation β not just performing a roadside rescue, but briefly handing over the reins of his patrol car to a new βrecruit.β
While on duty, Claxon spotted a dog standing in the middle of a busy interstate, dangerously positioned in a lane of fast-moving traffic. Fortunately, oncoming drivers slowed down and stopped, allowing the trooper to quickly and safely guide the pup out of harmβs way.
But once the dog was secured in his patrol vehicle, Claxon realized heβd just gained a very enthusiastic partner β one who had no intention of riding in the back seat. Instead, the dog hopped into the front and settled right into the driverβs seat.
Caught on camera, Claxon can be heard joking, βAre you going to be the trooper today? All right, you can be trooper today.β
The moment of role reversal didnβt last long. Claxon gently relocated his furry passenger to the back, but by that point, a bond had already formed.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol later shared a cheerful update:
βWeβre happy to report that our furry friend was safely returned to its owner.β
Itβs still a mystery how the dog ended up on the highway, but whatβs crystal clear is that Claxonβs quick thinking β and kind heart β helped turn a potentially tragic moment into a feel-good rescue story.
For a brief moment, the trooper gave up his badge and steering wheel β and in return, gained a heartwarming memory he likely wonβt forget anytime soon.
