Someone heard her barking πŸ’”

In early January, a severe winter storm hit Kansas City, blanketing the area with snow and freezing temperatures. At 4 a.m. on January 5, an elderly resident was startled awake by barking outside his door. Upon investigating, he found a heartbreaking sight: a terrified dog trapped in a cage, buried under the snow.

Unable to move the dog himself due to his physical limitations, the man called KC Pet Project for help. Angel, an animal services officer, drove over an hour through icy conditions to rescue the pup. When Angel arrived, the dog was shivering, but her tail wagged with relief as soon as she saw her rescuer.

Angel quickly got the dog warmed up and transported her to the shelter, where the dog was spayed and received surgery for cherry eyes. She was soon transferred to Missouri Pit Bull Rescue, where volunteers named her Blair, after the winter storm she survived. Remarkably, Blair was in good health despite her traumatic experience.

Karma seemed to intervene in a special way when it was discovered that Angel, the officer who rescued Blair, had a daughter named Blair. Katie Kramer, a foster volunteer at the rescue, came across Blair’s story and knew immediately that she had to foster the pup. Despite the hardships Blair had faced, she remained trusting and affectionate, snuggling up close to her foster mom.

Over the past two weeks, Blair has blossomed in her foster home. She has become a social, energetic pup, bonding with her foster mom’s dog, Lorax, and even working on winning over her foster cat, Idgie. Blair is now available for adoption and would do well in a home with another dog, though her energy may be too much for families with young children.

Kramer reflects on how far Blair has come, and how her past life outside in the cold is a painful memory. “Sometimes, when we’re all snuggled up on the couch, I think about how she was found, and it makes me really sad, because Blair loves to be warm, dry and to not feel alone,” Kramer shared. β€œI want the very best life for Blair.”

Blair is ready to find a loving forever home, and anyone interested in adopting her can submit an application through Missouri Pit Bull Rescue. After all she’s endured, Blair deserves the warmth and love of a family who will cherish her.
