In Fort Worth, police rescued a litter of puppies on a hot 100-degree day. They were left in a carrier without water by their owner, but luckily, a passerby called for help. Tarrant County police and animal control quickly arrived to care for the puppies.

A rescuer pets one of the puppies abandoned in 100-degree weather with no water. Deputy Collin Stephenson, who responded to the call, adopted one of the pups (Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office)

The parking lot where the puppies were found didn’t have security cameras, so it’s hard to find out who left them there.

“The puppies rescued by Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office are doing better now,” said the department on Facebook. They shared a picture of Officer Haley Drew with the puppies.

The puppies are recovering at Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center and will be ready for adoption in about a week.

Officer Collin Stephenson, who was there too, wants to adopt one of the puppies. The center thinks they’re a shepherd mix and named them after famous chip brands like Frito, Dorito, and Cheeto.

In Texas, abandoning a pet is a serious crime. It can lead to a $10,000 fine and 2-10 years in prison.
