An animal sanctuary is planning to expand its facilities to accommodate its growing wildlife. Crocodiles of the World (COTW), located near Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, has submitted a proposal to the West Oxfordshire District Council to construct a new enclosure for its 35 Nile crocodiles.
The proposed structure would be situated next to the current crocodile house, and the development would also see an increase in on-site parking by around 40 spaces. According to a planning document, maintaining “high standards” is a priority for the zoo. The plan involves building a replica structure alongside the existing one to ensure the animals continue to thrive while remaining a key attraction.
The proposal emphasizes that the expansion is not expected to boost visitor numbers or traffic to the area. Alongside the new enclosure, a toilet facility and an extended walkway offering a circular route for visitors are also part of the project.
The application highlights that COTW has become a prominent attraction in West Oxfordshire and is committed to maintaining exceptional standards. It further states, “This proposal is crucial for improving animal welfare and preventing overcrowding, and we strongly encourage the council to approve it.”
