She’s so tiny and perfect
When Brianna Minor and her fiancΓ© first toured their new home in June, they noticed an unusual bowl sitting on the fireplace. It seemed like an ordinary object, so they didnβt give it much thought.
But after they moved in, they realized the bowl had been a clue β one that had been waiting for them to figure out.
One day, while Minorβs fiancΓ© was preparing food, their dogs suddenly became intensely interested in something underneath the stove. Curious about what had captured their attention, he crouched down to take a look.
Thatβs when a tiny gecko stared back at him.
The couple was surprised to discover the unexpected houseguest, and their first thought was that she must have belonged to someone who had lived in the house before.

Once they realized the gecko was likely a former pet, the mysterious bowl on the fireplace suddenly made perfect sense. What they had assumed was an ashtray was actually a dish for a reptileβs food and water.
βThe bowl on the fireplace was only an ashtray in my head before it instantly clicked that it was a reptile water/food bowl,β Minor told The Dodo.
The couple named the little gecko Dotty, and catching her turned out to be surprisingly easy. Within about 10 minutes, they had safely brought her out from under the stove.
Dotty seemed to trust her new humans almost immediately. And after spending just a little time with her, the couple realized they didnβt want to let her go.
They decided to keep Dotty and quickly went out to buy everything she would need. Before long, she had a new enclosure, plenty of supplies and a comfortable place to call home.
Since then, Dotty has settled in beautifully.
βShe has been such a joy to have around,β Minor said. βShe just had her first shed, which is a good sign that she is comfortable with her environment and us.β
The couple never expected their new house to come with a tiny reptile roommate. But somehow, finding Dotty felt like discovering a missing piece of the home they had just moved into.
βIt felt like it was meant to be,β Minor said. βThis is Dotty’s house; we’re just living in it!β
