They hoped the scent would entice her 🥺
A Heartfelt Search for Penny
When an English couple’s Chihuahua named Penny went missing, they were devastated. Liam and Kellylouise were enjoying a walk in the woods near their home when a cyclist startled Penny, causing her to run away.
Exhaustive Efforts to Find Her
Despite searching high and low, the couple couldn’t locate their beloved pet. They reached out to missing dog expert Mandy Butler from The Lost Dog Trapping Team, who suggested that Penny might return to the area where she had gone missing. Taking this advice to heart, they decided to camp out in the woods, hoping Penny would find her way back.
Butler advised them to concentrate their scent in one area to avoid confusing Penny. To entice her to return, Liam and Kellylouise cooked Penny’s favorite food: sausages.
A Week of Waiting
For five nights, the couple camped in the woods, filling the air with the delicious aroma of sausages. Unfortunately, after nearly a week, there was still no sign of Penny. They decided to broaden their search, looking in different parts of town. To their surprise, they spotted Penny sitting in the middle of a field. However, she was still so frightened that she ran away before Liam could catch her.
The Power of Persistence
Working with the dog trapping team, they continued their search. Days passed, and they still hadn’t caught Penny. At one point, they even saw her enter one of the traps they had set, only for her to dart away once again.
“I was really despondent and losing hope,” Kellylouise recalled.
A Birthday Surprise
Then, on Penny’s birthday, the couple received a call that changed everything. A family had heard scratching at their door and found Penny asking to be let in. It seemed that she was confused and thought the house looked similar to her own.
Overjoyed, Liam and Kellylouise rushed to bring Penny home. To commemorate her return, Liam, who owns a tattoo supply company, even got a tattoo of Penny surrounded by sausages.
A Joyful Reunion
“It was like Christmas,” Kellylouise exclaimed. “I just couldn’t sleep. I was so excited.”
To celebrate Penny’s homecoming, the couple treated her to some freshly cooked sausages.
“She got the zoomies,” Kellylouise laughed. “It was so cute. It’s like she was saying, ‘I finally got my sausage!’”
