Concern for Missing Emu at Malmesbury Animal Sanctuary
Emu Disappearance Announced
The Malmesbury Animal Sanctuary has raised alarms over the mysterious disappearance of Irwin, one of its beloved emus. The sanctuary shared the news on its Facebook page early Monday morning, prompting concern among staff and animal lovers alike.
Possible Misadventure Near the River
Gary Nageb, an employee at the sanctuary, expressed fears that Irwin may have wandered into the nearby River Avon while exploring at night. “Emus can swim, so he could easily be in someone’s garden or a field,” he explained. “They are quite hardy creatures.”
Search Efforts Underway
Nageb mentioned that they have used a drone to search downstream, but so far, there has been no sign of Irwin. “It’s a real mystery, and we’re very, very concerned. They’re our babies, and we’ve had them for years,” he added.
Innovative Communication Attempt
In an effort to reach out to Irwin, the sanctuary team plans to make a unique call by thumping a wooden barrel near the river, producing a sound similar to an emu call.
Community Engagement for Support
On Monday, sanctuary workers canvassed the area, going door-to-door to encourage local residents to check their gardens and report any unusual activity that could lead to Irwin’s safe return. The sanctuary hopes that community support will help solve the mystery of Irwin’s whereabouts.
