“[Despite being] a little wiggly angel, abandoned by the one who should have cared for him,” πŸ’” Perched on the banks of the Maumee River in Fort Wayne, Indiana, sits a weathered port-a-potty, camouflaged among the tall grass near a boat ramp. It’s the type of inconspicuous structure that often escapes notice, blending seamlessly into its surroundings as visitors make their way to the water’s edge. Yet, it’s a stroke of sheer luck that one particular morning, a City of Fort Wayne employee happened upon the portable toilet, unwittingly uncovering a surprising inhabitantβ€”a tiny, 8-week-old puppy, tucked away inside its confines.

Huddled near the toilet was Louie, a black and white pup left behind by his previous owner. Enduring the harsh outdoor elements on his own, Louie had grown emaciated, his ribs protruding through his taut fur coat.

Moved by compassion for the dog, the city employee wasted no time and swiftly reached out to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) for assistance.

Rescuers sprang into action, gently coaxing the pup into their vehicle and whisking him away to safety. Wide-eyed yet trusting, Louie accepted their help without hesitation.

The veterinary team immediately devised a feeding regimen to assist Louie in regaining a healthy weight. As they observed Louie’s progress, the staff at animal control couldn’t help but be struck by the pup’s resilience and unwavering capacity for love, even in the face of adversity.

β€œThis precious boy has proven to be a resilient little angel, despite being let down by the person who should have cared for him,” FWACC shared in a heartfelt Facebook post. β€œOnce his initial excitement subsides, he relishes snuggling up in a warm lap. It’s truly remarkable to witness the forgiving nature of animals.”

Rescuers were dismayed to find Louie in such a precarious situation. The animal experts strongly urge anyone facing difficulties to seek assistance from local authorities or organizations rather than abandoning pets on the streets.

β€œMany individuals might hesitate to reach out to an animal shelter due to concerns about judgment or potential penalties,” a representative from FWACC explained. β€œAt FWACC, we aim to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment, prioritizing the welfare of both pets and owners. If someone is struggling and needs to surrender their pet to us, and they live in Fort Wayne, there are no charges involved.”

These days, Louie is enjoying life with a foster family, rediscovering what it means to be a dog.

β€œLouie is truly flourishing in his foster home,” the representative shared. β€œHe has reached a healthy weight and is gaining confidence with each passing day.”

Surrounded by love and support, Louie can rest assured that he’ll never have to face loneliness again.

β€œWe couldn’t be more thrilled for sweet Louie,” FWACC shared in a heartfelt Facebook post. β€œHis remarkable transformation is truly inspiring, and we’re immensely grateful to his foster family for showering him with love and preparing him for a bright future!”
